چکیده

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have different growth or decline patterns in terms of topological and economic characteristics. While some ISPs may have a significant correlation between their topological and business properties, others may not show such strong techno-economic dependence. In this paper, we examine the relationship between the network topology characteristics of the ISPs and their stock market values. We analyze data collected from two different datasets of inter-ISP relationships of various types, i.e., customer, provider and peer. Then, we correlate these topological relationships against the ISPs performance on the stock market. In particular, we examine the correlation between the stock market values as well as revenue of each major ISP operating in the United States to their degree (i.e., the number of connections they have to other Autonomous Systems) and customer cone size (i.e., the number of customers they are serving).

Analyzing network bandwidths of ISP topologies having power-law degree distributions

Recent measurement studies on Internet topology show that the connectivities of nodes exhibit a power–law attribute. That is, the probability p(k) that a node is connected to k other nodes follows p(k) ∼ k −γ. However, even if the degree distributions of some topologies are the same, more detailed characteristics are often quite different. For example, ISP topologies had a much higher cluster c...

Inferring POP-Level ISP Topology through End-to-End Delay Measurement

In this paper, we propose a new topology inference technique that aims to reveals how ISPs deploy their layer two and three networks at the POP level, without relying on ISP core network information such as router hops and domain names. This is because, even though most of previous works in this field leverage core network information to infer ISP topologies, some of our measured ISPs filter IC...

Dynamics of Feedback-Induced Packet Delay in ISP Router-Level Topologies

Internet behavior is becoming more complex due to everchanging networking technologies and applications. Thus, understanding and controlling the complex behavior of the Internet are important for designing future networks. One of the complex behaviors of the Internet is traffic dynamics. Previous studies revealed that flow control in the transport layer affects the traffic dynamics of the Inter...

Analyzing and Modeling Router-Level Internet Topology

Measurement studies on the Internet topology show that connectivities of nodes exhibit power–law attribute, but it is apparent that only the degree distribution does not determine the network structure, and especially true when we study the network–related control like routing control. In this paper, we first reveal structures of the router–level topologies using the working ISP networks, which...
